Since 1886, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design—a private, nonprofit four-year and postgraduate college—has been the preeminent art and design educator in the region.

MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES

MCAD’s mission, vision, and values guide the college’s daily decision-making and inform the relationships between staff, faculty, students, alumni, and the Twin Cities community.

STUDENT POPULATION

MCAD’s student body includes more than 800 students from 45 states and 15 countries. Of these, 50% are enrolled in Design, 38% in Media Arts, 10% in Fine Arts, and the remaining 2% in MCAD’s new Arts Entrepreneurship Department. 64% identify as women, 30% as men, and 6% as nonbinary; and 21 is the average student age. 42% are receiving the Pell Grant and 16% of undergraduate students are first-generation (as self-reported on the FAFSA).

CAMPUS

MCAD’s three-acre campus, which shares a block with the Minneapolis Institute of Art, comprises classrooms, professional facilitiesgalleriesstudent housing complexes, artist studios, and a sculpture garden. The modernist Main Building is one of the only buildings in the United States designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Kenzo Tange, and the historical Julia Morrison Memorial Building is more than a century old.

With more than 95% of students receiving financial aid in the form of grants or scholarships, MCAD is continually working to stay affordable to all students with the talent and drive to succeed as artists and designers.
